About me

Katherine Walsh

Hi, I’m Katherine Walsh. I’m a Senior Environmental Specialist for terrestrial mammals at Natural England, the government’s adviser for the natural environment in England. This blog is being written to document my travels as a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellow for 2019/20 as I assess approaches to lynx and wildcat reintroduction.

I’ve been working in the environmental sector for twenty years, gosh time has flown! Jobs have been wide ranging including work in the private, governmental, charitable and voluntary sector both in the UK and abroad.

My passion for wildlife has taken me around the world, travelling across Asia, Africa, S.America, the Caribbean and Europe either for work or for the sheer joy of seeing a ‘new’ species in its natural environment.

In my ‘spare-time’ I try to get involved in as many conservation activities as possible. I’m a licensed bat worker and an active member of my local bat group; the Cheshire Bat Group. I’m an enthusiastic wildlife photographer and try to keep active and bendy attending pilates classes, hill walking and rock climbing.

I hope that my project will bring some real world benefits and will inspire others to ‘travel to inspire’!
